We recently had the pleasure of hosting the technical team from Scantrol, Norway’s leading expert in wave compensation technology, right here at OUCO Heavy Industry. It was an exciting hands-on exchange focused on how Active Heave Compensation (AHC) is reshaping offshore lifting operations.
Based in Bergen, Scantrol has been a go-to name for marine control and vision systems since 1988.
We were thrilled to welcome their newly appointed CEO, Jan Kjærstad, who led the visiting team. Having Jan and his engineers at our facility was a great nod to OUCO’s manufacturing capabilities and a solid first step toward future teamwork.
If you’ve ever tried lifting heavy cargo at open sea, you know how unpredictable the ocean can be. Pitching waves make suspended loads swing like massive pendulums—a huge risk for both ship equipment and crew safety.
That’s where AHC comes in. Using smart sensors, the system tracks real-time ship movement and instantly adjusts the winch to counteract the waves. The result? The load stays surprisingly still, even when the ship is rocking.
During our discussions, both teams highlighted what makes AHC a total game-changer for deck operations:
The highlight of the visit wasn't just talking shop—we also got to show off our own heave compensation tech in action!
Our engineering team demonstrated how OUCO integrates wave compensation into our ROV LARS System and A-Frame Cranes. The Scantrol team was genuinely impressed with our design approach, practical application, and system integration.
As a marine crane builder delivering customized equipment (from 1t to 150t) with full classification certifications (ABS, CCS, BV, DNV), OUCO is always pushing for smarter offshore solutions.
Combining Scantrol’s control expertise with OUCO’s heavy machinery manufacturing opens up great possibilities. We’re looking forward to collaborating more down the road!
